What to Expect…

A “Prep-Mentoring” form will be sent to the young person and parent/caregiver by email or text before to their first session. Ideally forms are returned 24 hours prior to your first appointment.

Before

We can meet face to face in the Mint Mates office, a space designed to make young people feel comfy, with indoor and outdoor options. Alternatively, we can meet virtually with the young person if the comfort of their own home is preferred.

Please ring the doorbell when you arrive (located inside the garage, next to the office sliding door). Feel free to make yourself comfortable in the bean bags outside the office should you arrive early.

The parent/caregiver would normally stay for the first five minutes of the initial session, however, this can be flexible. Happy to have a chat with all parties and make the best call for the young person on the day, ensuring the young person feels comfortable and safe as quickly as possible.

In our session we will utilise a coaching framework and mentoring strategies to support the young person to cope better, build self-confidence, self-reliance and awareness of their own tools, strengths, and values.

During

After

It is important to respect the young person’s need for space and time to process and reflect after their session. They may not feel like chatting immediately after or even in the future, they may be happy to talk. Regardless, it can be helpful to communicate that you are available to chat if needed and ask if there’s anything you can do to support them after their session.

The young person may be assigned exercises or tasks after the session to support what they have learnt, these could range from increasing self-awareness in certain aspects of their life to accomplishing specific action items.

If there are any questions after the session, feel free to reach out via email, text or by phone.
